I am an Soviet and Russian camera collector residing in State of Illinois, USA. I have only somewhat recently started collecting (since May 2007) these fine examples of Soviet and Russian mechanical engineering and design that until late 80s have been closed off to the rest of the world. Now that these cameras have come to light, I want to share them with all of you. Recently I have decided to start cataloging Soviet and Russian cameras online, thus the USSRPhoto.com project was born, which is a Wiki catalog of Russian and Soviet cameras.

Wiki Catalog Entry
The Kiev-19 adds through the lens metering to the Kiev-17. The metering system is automatically turned on by depressing the depth of field preview lever. The exposure is set by adjusting the exposure time and aperture until both the red minus and plus led are lit. The film speed is set on a dial under the rewind crank. The dial is released by pressing a small chrome button next to it. There is no self timer and the flash jack has been moved to the side of the prism housing. On the back of the camera is a frame for the end of the film box (source: http://www.commiecameras.com).

After Ukraine separated from Russia (1992?) camera was fitted with lens Arsat H - relabeled Helios 81? and it has Latin letters on the front and Made in Ukraine on the back. It was succeeded by Kiev 19M mostly made from plastic.
