I am an Soviet and Russian camera collector residing in State of Illinois, USA. I have only somewhat recently started collecting (since May 2007) these fine examples of Soviet and Russian mechanical engineering and design that until late 80s have been closed off to the rest of the world. Now that these cameras have come to light, I want to share them with all of you. Recently I have decided to start cataloging Soviet and Russian cameras online, thus the USSRPhoto.com project was born, which is a Wiki catalog of Russian and Soviet cameras.

Smena 8 Stereo

Vlad's Description

Wiki Catalog Entry
This is one of the more "elegant" homemade Smena 8 stereos. This is two Smena 8 bodies connected together to make a single stereo camera.

This one has all the mechanics coupled, the focus and aperture rings are connected with beautifully crafted mechanisms.

The shutter release button had been relocated more towards the center and a single button serves as a release for both cameras with a makeshift bridge inside the camera. (see photos).

The creator had also been kind enough to provide both sizes of tripod mount sockets, but not so sure whether it was done on purpose... I am also not certain 100% whether the second camera is Smena 8 because of this difference.
