I am an Soviet and Russian camera collector residing in State of Illinois, USA. I have only somewhat recently started collecting (since May 2007) these fine examples of Soviet and Russian mechanical engineering and design that until late 80s have been closed off to the rest of the world. Now that these cameras have come to light, I want to share them with all of you. Recently I have decided to start cataloging Soviet and Russian cameras online, thus the USSRPhoto.com project was born, which is a Wiki catalog of Russian and Soviet cameras.

Wiki Catalog Entry
A nicely crafted Smena Symvol stereo with coupled shutters and shutter speeds, elegantly done with a bracket similar to the one on the Sputnik.

Seems like a back plate from an early Smena body (Smena 1,2,3 or 4) with GOMZ logo was used as decorative piece on the front of the camera to cover the seam between two bodies. Unfortunately the aesthetics of the of the whole camera is offset by the crudely machined thick bottom plate. An interesting piece nevertheless.

According to Aidas Pikiotas, there was a series of DIY articles in Sovietskoye Foto magazines that explained who to make these homemade stereo cameras.
