I am an Soviet and Russian camera collector residing in State of Illinois, USA. I have only somewhat recently started collecting (since May 2007) these fine examples of Soviet and Russian mechanical engineering and design that until late 80s have been closed off to the rest of the world. Now that these cameras have come to light, I want to share them with all of you. Recently I have decided to start cataloging Soviet and Russian cameras online, thus the USSRPhoto.com project was born, which is a Wiki catalog of Russian and Soviet cameras.

An Attempt at Homemade Photosniper

Wiki Catalog Entry
A very interesting work - someone had tried unsuccessfully to make a homemade photosniper lens that mounts an M39 thread mount lens and attaches to a camera like an early Zenit.

I would guess that the reason it was never finished was the incorrect execution of the squeeze-type focusing: when pressed it applies uneven pressure on the sliding PVC pipes that makes it very hard to actually slide in and out.

There is a lens element halfway inside the pipe. The Helios-44 lens was mounted afterward to demonstrate how lens would be attached to the assembly.
