So are these 'FED-Summar' lenses essentially FED 50mm f/2 lenses which had their engraving changed, like the fake 'Leicas' from FED-1 cameras?

If there are no other differences I think we should also list them in the wiki entry of the FED 50mm f/2.

Regards,
Christian

I completely agree with Bill.
Certainly, these lenses were not made by the Fed factory, exactly like the fake Leica II which were engraved outside.

The "JLP" notes this lens as a "variant"... For my part, I only saw Bill's and mine, that's all...

Amitiés. Jacques.

Wow, now that cleared up the wiki list.

So we have two confirmed 'Summars' left.
I guess they are from the same source as the fale 'Leicas'.
But since we have no documents I'm afraid it's impossible to say when the engravings were made.

Christian

Hi All,

Although these FED 2.0 lenses engraved "SUMMAR" are very rare, there seems to be no evidence that they were officially engraved with the Leitz identification at the FED Zavod.

Maybe some of these lenses were engraved there just by workers on off hours (to sell as Summars or for friends who needed replacement Summars for their Leica?), or by camera repair specialists not associated with FED. I suspect they were made as replacements for Leitz Summars that were lost, or possibly for Leica fakes, made from FEDs.

Does anyone know of any history or documentation for these lenses that would help solve this question of where they were engraved?

Regards, Bill

My two entries (23814 & 28957) are also incorrect. They are standard FED f/2.0 50mm lenses. I have tried editing the list, but when I try, the original text does not appear on the edit screen. I have now removed them from the list.

Looks great, Jacques!

Mike just informed me that the entry
22816 _____ Mike Haley- napchop (white)
is incorrect, this is a normal FED lens, so I removed this entry.

Christian

Yes, I will do something better in some days.

Jacques.

Thanks, that's what I expected.
Could you provide a picture of your black lens, Jacques? Might look nice in the wiki.

Christian

Hi Christian,

I confirm there is no other difference.
It seems there are two different fronts:
- chromed, like on the Fed lenses,
- painted in black.

They are excessively rare...

Amitiés. Jacques.
