How old was your grandosn at the time? That second pic only has two things that could be improved:

1) The picture looks slanted down to the right, it could do with straightening up.

2) The glass in the foreground should have been the point of focus. It looks to me like the crack in the wood of the table just in front of the small glass on the far right side was focused on.

If you set up the shot again and take these points into consideration, I think it would be quite a good shot.

I hope you don't mind my suggestions.
