Hi guys...

Ask >> what do the four digits of the serial number identify after the year of production (two digit)?

If 11,000 cameras (Princelle) were produced in 1951 and if 4 digits of the serial indicate the pieces made that year,
how did they write 10,875 (example) using only 4 digits?

Many thanks. Luigi

I have not found in the Princelle that 11000 Kiev II were produced in 1951... And my listing (very incomplete after 1950, I must say) contains only bodies with four cipher serial numbers.

In your example, the s/n would have been 5110875, of course.

Hi Jacques,
the source is http://www.sovietcams.com/index.php?1686816760

This I think is a fairly correct figure if you consider that the Kiev II were 100,000 ... about.
If you do not consider the years 1947 and 1948 wherea few hundred cameras were produced, the serial production years were nine (1949/1957)for a production average of about 11,000 pieces.

But what surprises me is that I never have saw a Kiev (II) with seven serial numbers (2 year + 5)

Thanks a lot. Luigi
