so I've got a very early helios 44 (n°0001243) and one of the latest... I'll compare the performances...

Congratulations. I think you have a very nice camera, and for the price, it certainly is a good value, even when we include the standard cost of a CLA for it.

One point to be noted is that the Helios-44M-7 is probably the best of the lenses in that series. All of the tests I have seen do say that it has the best resolution capability of the 44M series. And I can also say to you that I really do like my sample of the Helios-44M-7 58mm f:2.0 lens. And I also prefer the 58mm focal length for a "normal" lens. To me, that focal length provides a true normal perspective just like what I see with my own eye. To me, the 50mm focal length shows some characteristics of being a slightly "wide angle" lens.
