Hello all,

I've just bought a collpsible Industar 50 with front/rear caps, case and I presume an original receipt, but there are a couple of things I'd like to ask the members.

I don't know how to post photos here, (though I think I managed it once?), so I will post links in the hope that members can see the pics that way.

The lens and case, etc.

1) Should there be green string anywhere in this lens?:

2) Should there be light brown string anywhere on the lens?:

3) Is this rust and should it be that rusty, if it is?:

4) I'm presuming this is the receipt, but it looks a bit more than to me:

This is the other side:

Could anyoneplease tell me what it says on both sides?

Here's a close pic of the front of the lens showing the same serial number as on te paperwork:

Thank you for any help anyone can provide.

I have never seen any string in this lens construction.
Yes, this looks like rust. Maybe because this element was painted while rest of metal elements were chromium plated or made of different metal than steal.
The paper is not a bill.
On the first side there are basic technical data of the lens and confirmation of technical check.
The second side: there are warranty conditions.

Thanks for the reply and the info Alfa2.

I'll see what I can do to pull the green string out, I'll also take the light coloured string off. This string is next to a brown thing that seems rather soft, (easy to see in the 3rd photo), does anyone have any idea what it is?

This green string probably comes from felt or similar material which should be there. It is there because when you slide the front part of a lens metal cannot scrap by metal. So pls be carful here.

Regrding brown string and brown soft thing.
Brown soft thing should be there.
Brown string - should not be there. Maybe any label was on this brown sting. Somebody cut the label and left the string. Difficult to guess.

Hi there is a felt seal in the barrel which ensures the collapsible section closes smoothly and that no light can leak past the collapsible section. The brown gasket bit in the inside of the lens rim prevents metal to metal contact when the lens is collapsed. The green stuff may be the felt seal in the barrel disintegrating?? I'd leave well alone if its taking good photos :)

Thank you Alfa2 and SteveA for the new replies and info. It hadn't occurred to me that there would need to be a light seal in this lens! I had a strong feeling that I should leave the brown soft thing alone, I'm glad I did.

I've been toying with the idea of removing the rusty brown metal tube inside the lens, and sanding off most of the rust, (better not try to remove it ALL, in case there's no non-rusty metal left, although it doesn't feel like it's only made of rust), and painting it black and putting it back, but I don't know how to get it out without damaging the whole thing and I've no idea if there a special method for putting it back.

Hi Sean that ring should come out relatively easily if you use a jewellers screwdriver to gently lever upwards on the little tags - its only an interferance fit. I just tried it on mine and it came out really easily. It should be smooth and flat black in colour.
If yours won't come out, just paint some flat black over the rust - if any particles get into the lens mechanism by cleaning it in place then it could cause issues.

Cheers,
Steve

Thanks for the info Steve. Is there anything I should be careful of when putitng it back? If I can manage to stop myself being too much of a coward to take it out in the first place, that is.
