Posted - Feb 23 2009 : 03:13:58 AM I have just received a Birthday Kiev 4a 1979 , maybe not my favourite Kiev but - It's pristine , with original TOE [ UK importer's box and sleeve in English , Engish Passport and Manual all seemingly unused . Even the strap to the case is almost untouched . Maybe it was simply a curiosity from behind the Iron Curtain , and scarcely used .
It's acceptably smooth and quiet for a 30 year old camera without sevicing , maybe indicating , perhaps , that TOE did relube and thoroughly check / fix , all cameras coming into UK . It is gettng better as I activate the shutter .
This does not happen very often - especially from e-bay at £50 with postage !

Posted - Aug 08 2012 : 4:58:51 PM I love my Contax cameras revived by the Arsenal Techs and the pre-1960 Kievs , however , I have just re-opened my as new , mint , T.O.E imported Kiev 4a with mint instructions and passport . I tend not to disturb it too much so as not to scratch the case when fitting it back into the polystyrene box with sleeve .]
It was , and is , awesome to have a virtually mint boxed camera , made in 1979 , created around a camera from 1935 ! I have a later Kiev 4m , but mint boxed is awesome - each time I open it ! It actually works sweeetly and quietly too .

Consolidated from another thread:
My modest late , mint boxed , TOE , UK import , has been sitting in a cupboard whilst I mess with Kontax II hybrids .
I had forgotten how neat it is to take a ' new ' Kiev from it's box , with case just scuffed a little from the packaging . It just does not matter that it is a late 7os less well finished camera - it's still ' new ' .
I have a TOE Kiev 4 is similar condition , but not with box , instructions UK passport . I doubt that my prefered Kiev II or III would ever be found in this conition , especially at £50 .
In some respects , a new boxed Soviet camera was something I really wanted , I had hoped that a TOE Zorki 4 might turn up but a Kiev is perfect .
