I've recently purchased a Jupiter 8 to use with an M43 body. I'm really pleased with the results, but I would like to use a hood with it due to the lens flaring that occurs.

After doing some research I purchased a vented 40.5mm hood from Ebay, described as "1 x 40.5mm Special Light Leaking Lens Hood" and "For use with any Leica camera with a 40.5mm lens".

When it arrived I found it wound't fit the Jupiter 8, and the internal thread on the hood appears to be the same diameter as the internal thread on the Jupiter 8.

Where did I go wrong? Or have I been mis-sold?

Thanks,
Rich.

A word more about this problem.
The thread is different between Leicas and Contax Kiev for the filters: x0,5 for the Leicas, x0,75 for the others... The same of course if you have a screwing hood.

Just to be obliged to buy two series...

Amitiés. Jacques.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'll pickup a hood from Yuri's site. The strange thing is that one of the hoods he shows as suitable for the Jupiter (metal vented hood) looks identical to the one that I have, right down to the 40.5mm printed on the site. I guess that there are a lot of variations when dealing with old lenses. I've got much to learn, and not enough time!

Like Vlad.
I have several 40,5mm diameter filters (with or without hood) which fit perfectly my Jupiters and Sonnars. They come from Arsenal, Hoya or other makers..
Idem for an external plastic hood (without filter), but of 42mm that time.
In fact, there is no difference between Jupiters' and Sonnars' filters. I don't know for Leitz.

Hi Rich, hmm.. I'm not sure if Leica one would be compatible. You can check http://www.fedka.com/catalog I think Yuri may have a proper one..
