Posted - Jul 12 2012 : 02:51:22 AM I bought these cameras 4 or 5 years ago to the same guy in France. I got 5 sunshades too. It seems the cameras have been painted, but not all. I have also some other Fed 2 in different colours that seems to be more original, on cameras without selftimer. Does anybody know what colours were used on original cameras?
Fred

And like you see, flash contact are also in different palaces!
I know one blue camera with self timer in Estonia, also original.
And green

And red-brown (there is no fourth one), and I think, here is also one red camera with new advance knob (original)

Posted - Jul 15 2012 : 2:46:57 PM Fred, but what color is the velvet lining inside the case? The hypothesis is that the velvet lining color matches the camera body color.

Posted - Jul 14 2012 : 4:14:44 PM The dark green of the last pic ( 3 cameras without self-timer) came with box ,papers and case... Case is absolutely a normal one... But not sure it is the original one....

Posted - Jul 14 2012 : 2:42:03 PM I had several "coloured" Fed 2, but I remember only a red inside case. But I have always black Fed 3 with the same red for the case...
Perhaps Fred, if the cases are original?
Amitiés. Jacques. |

Posted - Jul 14 2012 : 2:21:00 PM That is very interesting! Does anyone have any examples of the cameras and cases to prove/disprove this theory?
Thanks, Vlad |

Posted - Jul 14 2012 : 02:22:50 AM I hear interesting rumor, inner color of leather case must match with covering color.

Posted - Jul 12 2012 : 3:01:32 PM Actually I stand corrected, according to Aidas (and I rely on his opinion and expertise heavily ) there was in fact a dark blue version of FED-2 with self timer. I learned something new thanks to Fred!
Cheers, Vlad. |

Posted - Jul 12 2012 : 2:56:35 PM Fred, I don't think the blue one in your picture is original, it's already 1d body which the new advance knob, I've never seen colored ones with that kind of knob before. The top set with self-timers is definitely not factory colors. |

Posted - Jul 12 2012 : 2:52:22 PM I always thought red was aftermarket. I have the original dark reddish brown, green and blue, didn't know there was a fourth one... |

Posted - Jul 12 2012 : 1:48:01 PM Right, the original coloured FED 2 are more dark. I have a dark red, dark blue, dark green and dark brown one, you can see them all here:

The bright painted ones are not original even if they look nice :-)

Posted - Jul 12 2012 : 1:34:11 PM Hi Fred,
agree with David, it were four original dark colours: green, blue, red and brown. Red and brown are really two different colours. As I know, there were neither any red-brown nor light-coloured cameras.

Posted - Jul 12 2012 : 04:13:13 AM Hi Fred,
OK with David about dark colours. But I don't know if there is really a red: it's rather a red-brown colour. So I think of blue, green and red-brown as original colours. The green particularly is so dark that it often looks black on eBay's photos...
Edit: the JLP adds 2 colours for 2c and 2d Feds (with seftimer): grey and "sand". I never owned one of these two ones.
Amitiés. Jacques.

Posted - Jul 12 2012 : 03:14:30 AM Hi Fred,
The original FED-2 colours were all very dark and subdued. The coloured versions seem to be the models without the self-timer. I believe the original colours were green, blue, red and brown.

Posted - Jul 12 2012 : 02:59:37 AM Hi again
Here is a pic of other 3 cameras in colour I have. There is no selftimer on bodies and the colour seems to be more "natural" than the other five cameras I showed before..
