Posted - Dec 14 2007 : 01:39:35 AM Zoom, My special thanks for your critical notes! I'll do my best to replace incorrect information as soon. Just for Zenit-4 (with Zenit-5 nameplate) I would like to have the separate discussion, while it doesn't seem assuredly, what somebody placed Zenit-5 top plate on Zenit-4 body ...

Zoom, Could you resend your list of mistakes to me? I would be glad to correct KMZ camera descriptions in my website.
You have made a good site.
In the text there are disputable moments, for example ( http://www.sovietcams.com/index.php?1111669253 ): "The Zenit-4 was also the first KMZ camera to come with a lightmeter"
But at fast survey of texts I have not found out a gross blunders.
The same page: "...Zenit-KM... This is the first microprocessor-controlled camera in the Zenit range" (the first was Zenit-automat with the "french electronics").
http://www.sovietcams.com/index.php?1414064190 "zenit-c This is one of the first SLR's ever made." You mean there Zenit(-1)? ;)
"Back in 1937 a Russian company called VOOMP-GOI created the FS-2." See Note 2 on this page: http://www.zenitcamera.com/archive/fs/index.html#n2
http://www.sovietcams.com/index.php?1906456270 "Very interesting Zenit-4, under name Zenit-5." I think that it was either a mistake, or for any reason camera has the incorrectly replaced top.
http://www.sovietcams.com/index.php?-17613401 "This camera is a Zenit-B with a TTL meter." It is possible to say so, but Zenit-TTL was made from other camera ("EM").
http://www.sovietcams.com/index.php?1808920295 Btw, shown on this page "Zenit-122 Special Edition" was made in 1993... ;)
Zenit-12xl "Presumably it was made especially for Latin-American markets." Yes.
http://www.sovietcams.com/index.php?989557947 "The body is made completely of plastic" Not of course. Only the covering (or housing). Zenit-KM, Foton and Juncor has the plastic bodies.
http://www.sovietcams.com/index.php?642490551 "Because of Toptronic reorganization all KMZ plans to produce cheap cameras were upside-down" The reasons were others.
Founded in the "Spy cameras" section: "Narciss" was not a "spy" camera... C-64 "Yelochka" too... ;)
Yunkor http://www.sovietcams.com/index.php?-1048640621 "Lens: Monocle 8/65." -- Nope. "Periscope". "Monocle" has one lens.
--- Btw. "Uncommon version of Zenit-EM camera #74023096." has very interesting logo...

Posted - Dec 12 2007 : 6:22:20 PM Hi Michel, I must say that the KMZ site that Zoom has made is the most complete and accurate site about KMZ cameras and lenses anywhere! Many cameras, prototypes, projects, and technical information about things that KMZ made are available nowhere else! Some things are in English, like the "production numbers chart" (scroll to right for English) and some other pages. If a page is in Russian, you can put it into a translation site and get a pretty good idea of the details. This is well worth the trouble if you are researching a specific camera as much of the imformation on Zoom's site can not be found elsewhere. So, if there was a special site like this also for GOMZ-LOMO, FED, Arsenal, BeLOMO things would be almost perfect! (Exactly perfect if all sites were in French, English, Russian, German, Italian, Spanish, Chinese, etc. ... or we can learn other languages!)
Regards, Bill

Posted - Dec 12 2007 : 6:19:15 PM That's no problem, Michel! I didn't know you didn't know who Zoom is.. sorry for making that assumption.
Oh wow! There's a Russian version! Never saw the cover before! Yes there is an English version, all of us in US have it, but it's very poorly translated.. A lot of stuff still popping up in French throughout the book..

Posted - Dec 12 2007 : 4:51:44 PM Hi Vlad, As Mr Zoom does not specifies the name of his site in his profile, I could not guess the existence of this site (KMZ ecxlusive… and not readable for non russian speaking members…) And, as mermoz37 says, we love ALL fsu cameras. About Princelle, I think there is an english edition ? Regards, Michel. |

Posted - Dec 12 2007 : 12:31:18 PM Nathan lost his interest in everything when he became sick few years ago. And the website was going down once for unpaid websitefees, but several ZCG-members donated money to keep it up. It was supposed to be payment for a CD about Nathans cameras, but nobody got anything.... There is even worse things I could tell but I am too polite here.

Not interesting, there are many errors. The author has not critically approached to the facts taken from a several known sources, such as http://www.commiecameras.com/ (For my meaning, Nathan's site is bad too. Sorry Nathan... I'm not the diplomat, I speak that I think.). |
