Maybe this thread has already been opened?
I am surprised about engraving of this lens.
One letter (E) is missing
I have never seen another one like this.
Someone has informations please?

Maybe it's not an 'error' but the engraver wanted to brighten up a boring day at work by doing the engraving incorrectly? |

I think it's similar mistake with this Jupiter-11 "11.5cm"

We only were joking about the legend... Of course, "errare humanum est". No need of vodka!

When engraving (indeed it was a handmade work, letter by letter) one position was missing. Nothing extraordinary. Errare humanium est.

in this case I think vodka is the best explanation of this engraving .

Well, if letters are stamped one by one, sure it is vodka...
And your lens is really rare, Fred.
I remember the story of the Yasuhara T981, a Chinese camera with its luxurious version, the Phenix JG50 (I owned one). Some of these last cameras were engraved "OFFICAL USA EXPORT" instead of OFFICIAL. The legend says that it was voluntarily made for collectors...
Perhaps it's the same here?

I have also never seen such engraving before.
The letters are stamped, so it could happened, that there was made a wrong stamp (Fr. 13th, or after some corporate party ).
The stamps were realy built letter by letter, so it could happened, that one letter was missed by mistake.

But how were these beauty rings painted, exactly?
Letter by letter? Impossible. So, certainly a complete serie, without "E", can have been made?

1967 was a tough year, so they saved a bit of white paint by omitting all "E" letters. |
