Hello,

a few days ago a Kiev 5 arrived here. Well, it's a nice camera, the moving parallax correction is great, the big and very bright finder ist like the one of a Leica M.

It's looks a bit clumsy, but ok, that's the socialistic charme of the cameras of that area :-D

It works good, but has one small problem, the film counter doesn't count. It stands at position "H" and doesn't move when I wind and release. I have tried it with film but no change.

Any hints how I can get it working?

Ulrich

Luiz,

thanks for the description. I will try to disassemble the top and take a closer look in it on the weekend when I have more time :-)

Ok Ulrich
The Kiev 5 does not much difers from Kiev 4 but proceed as follows:
The fist point is to remove a black washer over the speed dial (also advance knob) below, there are three screws -remove everything including the lever wind mechanism. -Everything easely removable from the top.
Remove the rewind crank and its surrounding threaded washer.
remove the top the normal way removing the inner camera screws as on Kiev 4 and also the external screw in the bottom of the speed dial assembly (as on kiev 4). Now remove the top -Exposure meter, rangefinder and counter comes together-- Of course you must remove the black front skirt as on Kiev 4 which has it in chrome.
Observe that there are two differnt models of kiev 5. One has the synchro on the same place as model 4, The other one on the focusing wheel location of the Kiev 4 this one must be de-solderd.

Placing the top again needs to use a string to replace rangefinder arm on right place.
Any doubts contact me.
Good luck!

Thanks for your answers,

the small chrome clip seems to work as expected, but the frame counter doesn't work.

zhang, can you give a hint how to open the top of the Kiev 5? I have a lot of experience in repairing russian cameras, but never have had a Kiev 5 :-)

Ulrich!
Observe that when you remove the back , there are a rail in the body of the camera around the top of the camera (and also around the open side). In the same direction of the conter but hidden on theis rail there is a small chrome pin responsible for the counter engagement when the camera is closed. Once opened it the counter goes to "H" from Nachalo (beginings) Observe if this pin or the back are not bent. When you close the camera you must force slightly, once there is a spring forcing the cover down.
Good luck!

Hello Ulrich,

It shoud work with the back on, or you have to remove the top plate to fix it. But a Kiev 5's top plate is not so easy to remove.:-(

Good luck.
