Posted - Aug 25 2008 : 10:19:29 AM Hello all!
Just came back from 10 days vacation ... Very interesting (and odd) badge with KMZ logotype was found recently announcing "10 years 1956-1966". Any ideas? May be Zoom could help us?

Posted - Sep 03 2008 : 11:16:38 AM both came from KMZ factory museum and was given to a friend by the museum leader ( I don't remember name , only I'm be sure she was a lady) This museum leader told to my friend , glass came from lenses (may be defect ?) normally fitted in zenit objectives (helios and so on....) back side is made in aluminium, both the same , whithout inscription.
My be at this time, the factory try to make some business for some institution ? .
About glass, I think it is the truth as far as I remember me , JL Princelle told me in the past : when visiting KMZ factory, he saw on the ceiling, in main entrance , a big chandelier made from zenit prism...! |

Posted - Sep 03 2008 : 08:46:16 AM Hi Alain!
Does the one on the right have KMZ markings on the back? Besides similarity to the other one what makes you think it's also a KMZ badge?
Also what do you mean made "out of stock" helios lenses? You mean the glass covering is made out of a lens element?
Very nice! Vlad |

Posted - Aug 28 2008 : 02:45:37 AM Vlad,
to say the truth, I have no my own opinion about the particular badge ... Your findings are very interesting, but don't seem assuredly for me. I see no sense to celebrate the 10th anniversary of camera exibition, and if its so, it should be mentioned in the badge for sure. May be they are celebrating the creation of new KMZ department or workshop in 1956, but I can't find any facts to prove it ... I even had an idea, that particular badge is not related to KMZ, but the logotype is clear and the typical one ... This badge was used for internal use only, I guess, while it's almost impossible to say what kind of Anniversary this item do represent. The one more interesting thing, that particular item was bought from an old woman, who have sold me another badge "25th Anniversary of KMZ" just half a year ago ... (see in Wiki Catalogue).

Posted - Aug 26 2008 : 10:25:01 AM Well... it seems like the exhibition was a big deal at the time... also in 1966 KMZ was given the Orden of Lenin, so that may have something to do with it as well... but why 1956? Maybe they have started a plan in 1956 and in 1966 they have completed it? But I know the plan was 1959-1965 (that was what Orden of Lenin was for)..
so the only significant event in 1956 that I see besides the release of some cameras was the big VDNH-type exhibition.. it is possible some promises were made at that exhibition to achieve some goal by 1965, so in 1966 when that happened they got awarded thus the badge... I will wait for Zoom's opinion too, but that's my best guess..

Do you really think that particular exibition could be so important event to celebrate it's 10 years anniversary?
Thanks, Aidas
