I admit, I do smoke. But looks like I have an even worse habit, which is now going very serious. But I just can't help it

As you may have noticed my finnish collector friend is selling away his jewels and in the last few weeks I just had to buy all this:
GLOBAL 676
ZORKI type-1b # 13208
JUPITER-11 4/135 ZM-39 # 59001941
SK (ZORKI) 2/50 # 5001947
And a VESNA 2 plus ELEKTRA 112 and Zorki 3 to complete the 3S, 3M I had.
But can I stay away items like TELEMAR -22 5,6/200 # 003423 or can anyone here

Plus one other member has promised to start learning finnish so that he also can start buying here

Alain and Vlad:

maybe there is a chance that a female collector will post here, who knows :-)

The last weeks I had two female buyers of cameras at home, the first one is a totally beginner and wants to start taking pictures in B&W. She bought a nice Zorki 1 from me.

The other one really surprises me, she knows a lot of russian cameras and has a big collection of old cameras (Nikon SLR's and rangefinders and a lot of russian cams), she knows the Princelle and so on. She looked at my collection and says "I have also this one and this, and this is nice, I am looking for it" :-) She bought a Zorki 2 from me, because she was looking longer time for it.

I told both of this forum, so maybe they take a look here and start posting :-)

Juhani: Yes, it's a mess... I also want to get rid of some cameras and in the same time half of a dozen packets arrive here with new stuff :-)

And seems that there has been even more growth again...
Last parcel was three cameras & two lenses, but I just can't help it! After Xmas I will make a list here what to get rid of, and then ebay the rest. Zenit, Zorki and FED will be my main lines after Smena in the future!

Hate to be sexist or anything like that, but I have not met a lot of women who are into actually interested in inner workings of vintage mechanical items, this seems to me to be primarily a male fascination (Alain's wife must be the exception to the norm ).. lucky man! There seems to be more women in the forums who are more interested in shooting the vintage cameras than questioning their insides.

I think we did have one female member post something at one point in time, have not heard from her since...

in France , the best way to have shelves is to make them in "Medium" (M.D.F. ) 19mm thick (very strong and easy to assemble and paint (or varnish) but if you are not handycraft man , you can buy such furnitures in special shop where you can find furnitures for shops.

Ulrich: about dedicate forum female links (or topic) once a french forum try to open such one (see "Sylvain Halgand" forum)...whithout success : only two or tree women interested.
But why not on Vlad's forum ?

And these risers are very convenient to elevate the cameras for display on different levels on the shelves:

buy more shelves... it's my solution (more than 300 cameras...)
not all FSU by far...

At one point I had to divert my money to invest in bookshelves (closed one) instead of buying cameras.... aaaaaargh...
and now... once again all the shelves are full...

I warmly recommend the Kew-lox modular shelves system... (it's typically belgian...) see their web site at www.kewlox.be (they also sell in france and germany)... look at the "vitrines" part of the catalog...

To collect 50 pairs of shoes is as useless as collecting 50 different cameras... But women can say "Hey, I can wear this shoe to this skirt and that shoe to that jacket and if we go to eat I have to put on this shoe...".
WE can not say "Hey, I can wear this camera to this pair of trousers and that one to this jacket" ;-)

PS: Where are the female collectors of cameras in this forum :-D

She collects shoes & clothes (what a surprise...) and teddybears. Now I know that even they can be expensive, and take a lot of room.

Steve: Hopefully I will not get into that far, I want to keep my cameras visible. Only cases are hidden, and they are also starting to be a storage problem, must be over one cubic meter already...

Jacques: Makes sense in concentrating, like Guido also wrote. So I will put some lines away soon

Alain: Do you know why car TV commercials have so funny plates? Because the same film can be used both in RHD- and LHD-countries, just reversing it like a mirror. So they use AHI-108-VUX type plates which can be read both ways

Aidas: You are far beyond the point of returning back to normal life from collecting
AidasCams Posted - Nov 11 2008 : 04:06:46 AM
Hi,

you can trust me - I have the same problems locally ... Beeing naive enough, I have started to collect all the soviet camera I have found on my way. And not only cameras, but everything related to cameras indeed ... I love my wife very much, because she is very patient and understandable. But at the moment my collection have reached 500+ cameras I had to do something. And I have created a virtual vitrine, under name www.sovietcams.com. A big majority of my exponates lied into heavy-weighted boxes for ages ... Now I have enough space, but it's almost impossible to find something if needed ...

I have 850+ soviet cameras at the moment, plus nice collection of various cine cameras (60-70), plus very beloved collection of camera-related book (aprr. 1000 copies). To say the truth, I would prefer books, instead of cameras to start collecting again ... Take a look at my oldest russian book (btw written originally by french-man ...).

Dear Alain,

is your serial number correct? It seems to me like mirror-reversed somehow ...

Thanks,

Jacques M. Posted - Nov 10 2008 : 5:06:21 PM

Hi Juhani,

Sorry for you, and for us all...
As for me, I wandered a long time before finding my way: I had to sell a good part of my LTM 39mm to buy my TSVVS. Thanks to Alain!
So now, I only have Feds, Zorkis and some Leicas to compare. Nothing else.

But my house is small, full of books too, and my wife looks out for squalls, even with her Ukrainian origins (she was born Zochtchenko!)...

Amitiés. Jacques.

As Vlad can attest to, I've created a Monster in my little office. I've built a wall of 12 oak cabinets, bought two floor standing cabinets and a book case. All are totally filled, so I started to box up cameras and place them in my crawl space. Now I can't crawl around in my crawl space. When I need something I have to wait till my Son comes home periodically from college and have him try to find my equipment.

As of two years ago I resorted to buying large sealable plastic tubs and filled those to the top. Now I have one narrow lane left to walk to my desk. Speaking of my desk, it's loaded to the point where I have to move stuff around so it doesn't slide and fall off.

Thank God that Vlad came by and bought some of my movie cameras. Those babies take up a lot of room.

It's dangerous, this camera collecting......DANGEROUS !!!

Steve :-)

Going on around 300 or so at this point .. I also at some point replaced all regular cameras with anniversary versions if available.. so I do not have regular FED 3B in my collection now, only Olympic and 50 Year October, that trims the fat a bit too

265 cameras, and yes I did exclude the Chinese ones, but that is a slooowly growing branch
Vlad Posted - Nov 10 2008 : 3:17:33 PM
I ran into this issue when I hit 200 cameras and my shelves were overfilling... solved it by not collecting rebadged exports and selling or trading those and very happy I did it will all these new rebadged brands coming to light... maybe someday when I get a bigger house with mansarde just for my cameras like Alain has (now they are in my home office) I will start collecting those as well...

For you Juhani,it should be a personal preference although I when I saw you branching out to Chinese cameras, even though I was tempted number of times I resisted... hehehehe... but could not resist the movie cameras , even though they are not my top priority and I only get them when I can get them really cheap....

Typing error, one S too much, now corrected.

And Zorki+Zenit would be easy for me too as there is so many of them now, on the other hand I like Ukrainian production more than KMZ...
Guido Posted - Nov 10 2008 : 2:31:31 PM
Hello Juhani

Well, I have no answer to your questions, sorry. I think it's a very personal thing what to collect. Myself I have decided to collect only cameras from KMZ with 35mm film, will say Zenit and Zorki mainly.

But I have a question to you about your list if you allow: What is a "Zenit 19 S" or it's only a missunderstanding on my side? Thank you for an answer in advance.

Best wishes - Guido
cedricfan Posted - Nov 10 2008 : 2:13:55 PM
The first posting was actually a preface to my dilemma...

As you all know I was supposed to collect Smena, Elikon and other simple FSU-cmeras. But things got out of control, especially as there has been so many interesting ones for sale here in Finland lately

My vitrine is over full, some 20 cameras are now collecting dust on it and should go in but there is no room. And there is no room for a new vitrine either, as walls restrict the space

So what shall I do? Get rid of some "lines" or "families", but which? This is where I am asking for guidance. What would be most worthwhile to save and what could be reasonable to sell? And if someone here is interested in buying a whole line please contact me. I may post a "for trade" add later but I really don't know yet what to do

Juhani,

Congratulations on your new purchases!

Could you tell me the serial number of your Global-676 and the type of shutter (up to 1/200s or 1/250s)?

Thanks in advance!

Aidas
