I'm Geoff Oxlade from Scarborough in Queensland, and I have accumulated some Soviet gear over the past two years.
It started when I inherited my father's Spotmatic/Takumars and tried the lenses on my K100 Pentax DSLR. I added an Industar 50-2, because it was small and different from the Taks.
Then, on impulse, I bought a set of three silver M39-mount lenses: an Industar 50, a MIR-1 and a Helios 44, which came with a M39-M42 adapter. I tried them on the K100, didn't like the complexity of multiple adapters or the lack of infinity focus, but found I liked the challenge of preset lenses, so decided they deserved their own body and added a Zenit 3M/Helios 44 set.
Whilst having minor repairs done to the Zenit body, the local Camera tech. showed me his Leica screwmount rangefinder, so here was another system to try.
I now have a Zorki-1/Industar-22, FED-3/Industar-61, Zorki-4/Jupiter-8, blue FED-2/Industar-26M (in transit), and a silver Industar-61, a black Industar-61 L/D and an MIR-1A. Also have a KMZ turret finder and Sverdlovsk-4 meter.
The best part of all this variety is that I can use all the lenses on my Panasonic G1 with adapters, and actually enjoy the ease of manual focus with my 60 year old eyes. Well, it's all a bit longwinded, but now I have a request.
Information is scarce on the MIR-1A. Can somebody tell me whether the MIR-1A is listed in the new 1200 Cameras book, and if so, are there any details? The lens looks to have dual sets of aperture blades and I wonder why? Any other info will be appreciated, too.
Cheers Geoff
