Vlad,

thanks a lot. Interesting, that a normal Sailor gets a camera from the ministry of defense. Unfortunately we did not know what for he gets the camera.

You are right Urlich. Interesting how sailor(the lowest rank in USSR navy) can get such gift from Defense Minister. He must did something extra-extraordinary, and came out alive to tell about it! Amazing!

Or it's a fake engraving made for collectors , not that I'm saying it is. I got very similar Zorki-4 that says to General from Minister of Defense

Let see, if camera was presented in 1965 it must be made in 1964-1965, so it must be Type FED 2D, which is correct. But first digits of serial number on FED 2D usually show year of production, that mean that camera above is from 1962. That make to much stretch to be presented in 1965 IMHO. Considering other evidences, chances that this camera was engraved this way to be sold for higher price is better than chances that it was really presented to sailor by minister for some achievement.

okynek,

maybe this is a reason. Nevertheless it's a nice camera :-) And, who knows, maybe the sailor has saved life during a ship tour or something like that. Or he was the only soviet sailor that didn't drink alcohol for one year (just kidding) ;-)

I have to agree with you Ulrich, this is nice camera indeed.
I do not discard(and I truly hope) that this engravings are original.
But if minister give cameras for

reason then it must be really rare camera
