Hi,
My name is Arend, I'm from the Netherlands I have been collecting Russian cameras for some time now.
Early december I bought a FED stereo M on Ebay UK and when it finally arrived yesterday I was really thrilled until I found out that the shutter does not cock. I can hear and feel that there is something happening inside and also the shutter release sets off some click, but the shutter does not open and close. It looks like the film advance winder does not cock the shutter. I was quite disappointed and now I am looking for ideas. I hope there is someone who offers some advice.
Cheers,
Arend

Hello Arend!
FED Stereo cameras have a very particular film advance.
The advance works first with a single stroke the second picture needs two strokes agan one stroke and two strokes.
The first series used to advance in two strokes and neext in three strokes. This is because the advance system and picture positioning in frames Each two pairs are interlaced an after it goes to take a new two interlaced pairs. When selling those cameras people could not understand why but it is simple, you need only to see an exposed film.
If the frames are not properly advanced the shutter does not work
observe the wworking of the camera. At first it is a challenge but soon you will understand
Regards and good luck

Hi Luiz,
Thanks for your response, but does this mean there has to be a film inside for the shutter to cock? I knew about the frame spacing so that was no surprise. Anyhow, when I move the transport lever the take up spool turns and the sprocket wheel seems to turn as well. But no shutter response.
Kind regards, Arend

A lot of time I did not touch a single FED Stereo. I remember they have the same shutter fitted in FED 50 , FED 35 but in pairs.
I believe the shutter blades are visible from the internal of the film chamber. If so, use a cotton swab with a graphite powder and try to rub the blades in both shutters. repeat firing the shtter I believe it will work.
Good luck

Hello!
I had aslo problem with my FED stereo. My camera problem - there is somekind of hoop between the lenses. This hoop fires both lenses shutter. And this hoop was fixed, not rust, but I thin the word is "black". So my friend opened the camera, cleaned this hoop and my camera awaken alive.
