Hello,

It seems that Alex's site on eBay has disappeared.
Has anybody news?
Does it have a connection with the present fights in Ukraine?

Jacques.

I think full war will be soon in Ukraine, if world don't stop Putin. I don't close my store but I start pause. Hope I can open it again ever. NO WAR STOP PUTIN!!!"

Dear camera collectors and friends!
This forum is NOT a political forum, so I think we should remain with our photographic topics.
It it very pity, what is happening in Alex's city, but anyway let's remain the technical forum without any loud quotes about fascists and Putin.
It is only my opinion.

Regards, Alexander

OK Alexander.
Can I have another opinion?
I did not have this information.
And I do think we can relay what he says on his site.
At least!
No?

For the rest, everybody can think what he wants.

Jacques.

Hello Alexander

After the Januray 7th and the attack on the freedom of speech in Paris I don't want to say to someone in a warzone to shut up. Alex is a member of our community, a good friend of some of us and well known as a collector. I think the quote made by Vlad must be allowed in this case.

But you're right, this is and will remain a nonpolitical forum for collectors of cameras of the areas of the former SSSR. So my and your opinion about the conflict in the Ukraine should not be discussed here.

Just my opinion (that's what you mean, Jacques?).

Best wishes - Guido

I absolutely agree, politics should not be discussed here, I merely quoted what his eBay store says now. This was not intended as any statement.

As Guido has said, Alex is a seller and a friend. He had problems lately which are not solved just because of the actual situation, if I understand correctly.

So, it is normal to be unquiet about him. For the rest, I say nothing. Except concerning the lack of information...

Sorry if I have been a bit harsh, Alexander.

Amitiés. Jacques.

Guys,
I agree with all of you. We write the eMails with Alex from time to time and I find it absolutely OK to care about the situation around him.
I just wanted to point, the there is no place for politic in the collectors forum. I hope, you have me properly understood.

So, for the moment, his site is closed?
I have nothing on his site. But some of his items are always in my watch list?...

Jacques.

Is there a rule that Russians are not allowed to sell antique things abroad? If so and if that rule applies to Donetsk and Luhansk now also, Alex will face even more trouble in the future than he had in Ukraine in the past with selling his spy camera.

And now I understand why Alex had this trouble in Ukraine. It was a corrupt system and officials wanted to get paid.

Ukraine stopped paying retirement for the occupied regions. Some people are out of money and starving. They try to sell everything they can to get some cash. Now you should find hidden gems on flea markets there. Maybe that's what Alex can do.

I bought FSU cameras from Russia and Russia customs check all parcels. They release with no problems old cameras.

There used to be rules in Ukraine about selling/shipping antique items.
I do not remember exactly, but anything over 100 year old had to be cleared with the Ministry of Culture (i.e. a permit obtained).

In any event, Russian cameras do not fall under this category.

Thanks.
But I was unquiet about Alex himself, depending on the place where he is.
The situation in the east of Ukraine is really very bad, as everybody knows.

Jacques.

Hello,
I got an Email from Alex two days ago, the situation is really not good, unfortunately you cannot get any truthful information in press. We stay in contact.

By the way, the post works. I have got a parcel from Alex two weeks ago, it took about 3 weeks from Donetzk to Germany.

Regards, Alexander
