Hello guys, I'm new here and to Soviet cameras in general. A few months ago I purchased what I was told at the time was a Kiev IV and Jupiter 8 combo for about the going price of such a setup. However when I got it home I quickly realized the lens went to f/1.5 and was indeed a Jupiter 3. I then researched the camera and learned it was an earlier Kiev II which I didn't even know existed when I purchased the camera. I simply didn't know enough at the time and lucked out with my purchase. I quickly shot a roll of Ektar 100 through it and was blown away by the results as it easily outperforms my Zeiss Jena 50mm f/2 Sonnar from my Contax. The camera dates to 1955 and the lens to 1953. Ever since then I've been reading everything I can find on these cameras. Also I've been shooting a few Zeiss lenses in other focal lengths on this camera as my Contax doesn't work too well but I'm going to find period Russian lenses to match the camera. I just thought I'd share this and introduce myself. If anyone has any information they have on my particular camera or know of any good resources I'd be very grateful.

Sonnar/Jupiter lenses are among the best, always now, especially the old ones.
If you have special question, you can put them here. Sure, somebody will be able to answer.
And welcome!

Jacques.

Hello and welcome to the forum RolleiPollei. It can be a fairly quiet place at times, but you'll find out all sorts of stuff.

I'd also like to say:

"Oooh, I hate it when other people get that lucky!"

lol.
