Hello,
I have just bought a Fed 2 with a serial number beginning by "A" as a prefix. It's not the first time I see one of these Fed 2, but they are not common. Do you have one of these Fed? But why this A ?.. Fed usually don't use letters in their numberings...
I wonder if it couldn't be an intermediate decision of the factory after the first million of Fed 2-s: the first Fed 3-s, in production since 1961, were already using numberings beginning by 100xxxx. It would explain too the very quick jump for the Fed 3-s from 1 million to two... to let some space for the Fed 2-s.
Of course, I think of Kiev-s too: some of them have A or B prefix.
Anyway, there are always unsolved mysteries, even with cameras that don't worth much!
Amitiés. Jacques.

Jacques, no problem,
so to summarize other thread, the "A" prefix FED-2 has a redesigned top plate? Does everyone agree with this assessment?

I have a Fed 2 s/n A 048771. With selftimer and flash sync.
If this may help…

Thanks, Michel. In fact, I don't understand the numberings for the Fed 2-s. The A prefixed camera all belong to the same category: the 2 type d (by JLP) with the new top plate (new position of the clip) and the new state of speeds beginning by 1/30th instead of 1/25th for the precedent versions. But there are many ordinary 2d-s without this A prefix...
I suppose that Fed had some problems to build a convenient numeration for their different cameras which were produced at the same time: 2-s, 3-s, 4 type a, zarya. Of course, it would be useful to have the (unavailable!)records of the factory. There are much unsolved problems too about the numberings of the lenses... And I don't speak of the "mixes" possibly made by the sellers!
After my 1-s, I am going to complement my collection of Fed 2, 3, 4 and 5-s which didn't interest me really till now. Anyway, I will study all that and I come back in two or three years, if I have found something!!! But if somebody already knows the answers...
Amitiés. Jacques. My numbers: A078285 for the camera, 1260371 for the I 26 M (F410). |
