n 1984 the Zenit-automat entered the mass production. The Automat was the first KMZ camera with Pentax K mount (which was proposed as an open-standard by Pentax and distributed freely) and a focal shutter with horizontal-travel cloth curtains. The only operation mode was aperture-priority. Viewfinder features a fresnel with split focus at the center, and a small cover built into the camera for the viewfinder window. At least 3 variants of Zenit Auto existing: an early cameras came under name Zenit Automat in Cyrillic/Roman. (Some of these were marked with the Seal of Quality on the film advance lever) The export version used the "Motorola" electronics instead of soviet ones. The Late Automat's came under name "Zenit Auto" in Roman characters (picture camera 1994).
