It's odd that, among my 20 Kiev/Contax treasures, that a mechanically and cosmetically compromised 1979 Kiev 4a should be the most evocative.

I love my hybrid Kontaxes but this mint boxed TOE import to UK, reminds me of many happy moments wandering around the dated and quite dark TOE shops way back when.
Of course, carefully checked and fixed where required, TOE cameras were about the best USSR cameras available at the in the UK at this period.

Even today, enticing it from it's polystyrene box, the smell of the leather case seems as fresh as the day it was made.
There is hardly a mark on it, it works exquisitely [ though it probably leaks by now ] which makes it the nearest I will ever be to a new Contax showing continuity from the mid 30s.
