Hello,

I have a problem with my Jupiter-11. I got it in a very good condition, but the pictures that I took with it, have been blurred. So I tried to dismantle it. Unfortunately I couldnt find a description, how to do that.

(Its a silver, thin Jupiter-11 with M39-Mount)

For tests, I took my Zorki-3 without back but with an attached focusing screen. The camera is working very well. It has correct 28,8mm-flange and the rangefinder also works correct.

At first I divided the lens in the middle, like a Jupiter-8. Now I had two parts. The front-part with the glass-lenses and the rear-part with a complex helix. I changed the setting of the helix. Now it was better. The rangefinder showed me the same result as the focusing screen. But the meter-scale on the lens didnt fit to this result. When I set the lens to infinitely, the scale showed me 30 meters. When I set the lens to 3 m, the scale was between 3m and 2,5m. So I think, the distance from the front-part of the lens and the rear-part is not correct. I measured the different length of the lens between the correct setting and the setting on the scale. It was about 0.7 mm. Between the front- and the rear-part of the lens are some very thin plate-washers. I took a paper, that is about 0.7 mm thick and cut a "plate-washer" out of it. I assembled the Lens with this selfmade plate-washer. Now it works correctly, but the diaphragm-scale is not longer at the top of the lens. Its on the right side now. I cant find a way to move this.

Now my questions:

1. If anybody knows the system of this lens, what do you think about my way to repair the lens. Is it the correct way? Or did I do a mistake?

2. Does anybody know, how to move the diaphragm-scale to the top?

3. Does anybody have a description, how to repair the Jupiter-11?

4. Where can I get new metal-plate-washers?

Sorry for my bad English. Hope, you can understand me.

Thank you, and Greetings from Germany.

Dear Michl,

1. Probably your first attempt, maybe not entirely the correct way, but everyone makes mistakes now and then. If you succeed, you might pick up more lenses you will fix like me.

2. I'm sorry, not yet. Haven't got a J-11 myself, but when I do I'll certainly disassemble it and let you know.

A disassembly for the Jupiter 11 (Contax mount) version is right here:

3. http://www3.telus.net/public/rpnchbck/Jupiter-11%20dismantle.html

The Helical (Helix)is different, since their mount is different. But the part of the lens with the diafragm ring should be on the top.

4. They can be home made, or crafted on a lathe (Drehbank)from a pipe. A micrometer for measuring thickness of the washers is necessary.

If i'm not mistaken, this is more a collectors board in my opinion. I'm both a collector, shooter and technician.

With kind regards,
