Hello,

today a nice Jupiter 8 arrives here. It has the "ears" on the aperture ring and was built in 1950. I've searched some ebay auctions for old Kievs and have found out that it must be one of the first Jupiter 8 lenses that is engraved as Jupiter instead of Zorki.

I have found 2 auctions from ua-project where he sells old Kievs, both of them have Zorki lenses with serials 5003658 and 5004891.
My Jupiter 8 has serial number 5006092 so it is very close to the both, only 120 numbers away. It has the KMZ sign and I think about it if it could be that these lenses contain Zeiss glasses like the ones from 1947 to 1949. Does anybody know when they ran out of stock abd began to build their own glasses?

Hello Ulrich,

The latest known s/n of ZK 50/2 is 5005206, and according to a Chinese collector, the earliest Jupiter-8 has a s/n 5005444.The two numbers are very close, and the last ZK should be somewhere in between.

Kind Regards,

Thanks Zhang,

so they have mixed the engraving ZK and Jupiter a small time.
I think, I will disassemble my lens by the time to see if it contains a number on the inner parts :-)

Hello!

Did you dismount your lens Ulrich? What is the inside like?

I will receive in some days a Jupiter 8 # 5005386 (with two "ears) mounted on a Kiev II # 506446. A bit older than the Jup serial number 5005444...

The limits between ZK and Jupiter 8 are more and more narrow! [:)]

Amitiés. Jacques.

Jacques,

I have dismounted it today. It looks like a normal J-8 inside, no more Zeiss numbers to see.
