I recently aquired this Zenit-12XP with the bayonet and endoscope modification usually associated with the Zenit-11 in its MT-1 form. Do you think that this is a factory modification or has someone just modified it using MT-1 parts? The camera came as part of a MFN-10 microscope kit.

To me it looks like a mod.... In theory it's easy enough to do. I have an MT-1 and it's a matter of 4 screws to convert it from bayonet mount to m42. If I get time, I will see if I can fit the MT-1 mount to my 12xp, to see if it can be done, providing the screw holes line up it should be simple!!

Just a quick update I checked on the my MT-1 Surprise and 12XP and it is perfectly possible to fit the endoscope attachment and Industar lenses from thr MT-1 to the 12 XP. 2 minutes and a screwdriver will swap the m42 mount for the bayonet and they line up perfectly, so unless someone can find another 12 XP medical cmaera I reckon it's a modifiction from bits and pieces.

Hi David,

It's also a bit odd that it's the 12XP that was used and not the SD which was domestic model if it was the factory article.. nevertheless an interesting find, still very collectible.

Cheers,
Vlad
