I agree with Vlad, it does appear to be of Soviet manufacture, but what is it? I don't think it is a camera, or even a projector or viewer. It certainly has two lenses and maybe it is a stereo device of some kind. There doesn't appear to be anywhere to accommodate a lamp or film of any size. I think it maybe part of something else, with the two lenses producing a small image on the two ground-glass screens (but in the photograph, the lenses are not positioned opposite the screens). Could it be some sort of optometrists apparatus?

Hi David,
what about those backs? They seem like medium format camera backs... that tends me to believe this is in fact a camera..
Cheers,
Vlad

Hey people!
I remember several years ago to have seen such a camera at Sovietskoe Foto magazine This is really a strange 35mm stereo camera
The second picture called my attention once one can clearly see the speed control gears from Lubitel and Smena shutters. The view finder is in the bottom of the camera and is a stereo one to be seen with both eyes through the rear holes near the tripod bushes.(each side with a different one). In this camera the film chamber stays in the middle of the lens and has an odd path with two reversing prosms behind each taking lens. next I will place the controls and the schematicas of this really odd camera. The main idea was avoid transposing slides in the main strip.
If one can see another rarity with the same idea go to

Great information as always Luiz, thank you! So do you think this is possibly some kind of GOMZ/LOMO prototype? Or a handmade job?
Thanks,
Vlad

According to the pictures, the rangefinder double image coincides with the right eye view.

Thank you, Luiz for providing such comprehensive information. It certainly puzzled me. I had no idea that the central compartment was the film chamber. That's why I was so sure that it wasn't a camera. The important question is, 'Did you buy it, Vlad?'.
David.

Luiz, wow! I am once again impressed and graceful for your detailed explaination and vast knowledge. Thank you it makes it very clear!
David, no unfortunately I did not buy it, it's a bit out of my price range - over $2000 and it only ships via private courier within Russia...
Cheers,
Vlad

Luiz,
Absolutely fascinating! I still don't quite understand how you derived to the conclusion that this oddball camera uses this lens schematic, or you're talking about an analogous unit? To tell you the truth, I don't have the permission of the seller of this camera to place it into the catalog, that's why I only put it in the forum... I will try to track down seller's email in Novosibirsk, I think my friend in Moscow has it, since I've bought some stuff from her before. After I get the permission we'll create an entry.
Thanks again for all your effort, I'm just plain amazed how you derive so much info just from a picture! [:D].
Best regards,
Vlad
