Hi everyone!

I just want to say Hello, as moments ago I registered as a new member. I recently purchased my very first Russian rangefinder, a mint FED 2(D6). It has just been CLA'd; even came with a three month warranty. (I've attached a couple photos of it)

I am a landscape/nature photographer living on a remote yet beautifully scenic island situated off the northeast coast of Newfoundland. I am permanently disabled due to a spinal injury suffered several years ago; still have some "good days" which enable me to get up and about and explore this island's many natural wonders with camera gear in tow. I shoot primarily with multiple Sony Alpha DSLR's, but also enjoy my many vintage film cameras, including Minolta and Canon SLR's, my FED 2 rangefinder, (of course) some lovely old Brownies/box cameras, and even a mint condition 95 year-old folding bellows Autographic 1A which looks every bit as perfect today as it did back in 1917.

I look forward to getting to know many of you personally, and becoming an active, participating member of this fine forum. You can see my work at www.FocusOnNewfoundland.com

Best regards,
Glen B.

Hello Glen!

Welcome here. You will find on this site some mad collectors who are able to discuss without limit about the position of a screw on a 1938 Fed 1c...[:p]

Newfoundland was founded by the Northmen, if I am right. So was Kiev and probably Kharkov. No doubt you have a great future as a collector!

Thanks for your photos. You have a special forum to post pictures. Don't hesitate.

Amitiés. Jacques.

Hi Glen,

Welcome to the forum! I hope this FED-2 is a start of a bigger Russian collection for you! There are always people on this forum eager to share their knowledge about these cameras with anyone with questions! Stay warm! [:)].

Cheers from a little bit warmer than Newfoundland Chicago, [:)]
Vlad.

Hi Vlad, and thanks for the warm welcome! I have to disagree with your assessment of our Newfoundland climate though. It is a common belief that Newfoundland is cold; in fact we live in one of the milder regions of Canada. We have had only one white Christmas in the past 18 years. I just checked your weather, and your temperature is currently the same as ours. (about 3C) Tomorrow, your high is to be 4C while ours is 8C!

Yes, I will certainly be buying more Russian cameras in the near future; in fact I currently have my eye on a pristine Zorki 4 and a beautiful Kiev, among others. I love all vintage cameras, but after seeing my FED 2 I am totally hooked! I like it every bit as much as my 94 year old folding Autographic 1A!

Thanks again for the welcome!

Glen

I stand corrected! [:)] That's an interesting fact about Canada! I've been to Quebec City last year and almost froze myself in early September [:)].

Glad to hear about your plans to add to your collection, that's great news! By the way I looked through your website, absolutely stunning photography!!

Best regards,
Vlad

Hello Glen,
welcome here in the crazy "World of Russian Cameras" [:)]. Maybe I can meet you sometime in Canada too.

Regards from Germany,
Alexander

Hi Alexander, and thanks for the warm welcome! Yes, next time you visit Canada you should put Newfoundland on your radar. And a trip to Newfoundland is not complete without spending at least a few days on Fogo Island! Our door is always open, and the coffee pot is always on!

Today I purchased my second Russian rangefinder; an absolutely pristine Zorki-4. It took me over a year to locate one that truly is in "like new" condition! Here's a pic of it. Why do I get the feeling that this will fast become an all-out FSU camera addiction?

Glen
