Kiev 4 with Jupiter 11 question

Hi folks,

I heard that the little yellow box seen in the Kiev viewfinder is indeed exactly the same size as the frame of the Jupiter 11. So this way the user don't need to use an external vievfinder for framing. Is this true? I tried to search some sources on the net, but to no avail... And I don't have an external viewfinder nor a Jupiter 11 at the moment to check it. Maybe I have to do some calculations regarding viewing angles, and check it, but it would be great if someone can answer this.

It's an interesting question. I am not so sure about that feature, I only know Leningrad is the only camera that offers markings for multiple lenses in its viewfinder.. maybe someone else can shed some light on this, I haven't heard of this feature.

Thanks for your answer. I made a test picture to check it through the VF. I tried to interpolate the frame of the Jupiter-11, from the difference of the specified horizontal and vertical viewing angles. I'm not that much into optics, but I think the picture is correct theoretically, because both of the lenses are made for 35mm. The ratio of the diagonals of the hand-drawn "J11" and "J8" frames is 2,81, and the ratio of the focal lengths is 135/50=2,7 - if this is not just happened because of a coincidence, I think the theory is okay :) By the way the viewfinder's yellow box is smaller, it's size is about the half of the drawn "J11" frame...

I used a long time this trick and it works.
The image in the view finder is slightly smaller than the frame covered by the J11. In close ups for portraits there is a also a noticeable decentering but experience tell us where to center and use the yellow frame. Normally when you use Universal finder you have a more chance of error. Experience told me to use always yellow frame of range finder.
