Just read this post at Zenitgroup... Tom is thinking of pulling the plug on his site.. I'd be very sorry to see it go, it is a great resource, I always enjoyed reading his articles and reviews. I wonder if I should offer to host his collector-related stuff in the WIKI.. I'm sure with some joint effort it can be easily integrated into articles section obviously him being stated as an author. Even if not, maybe I'll go through his site and at least archive some content for personal reference...

Hi,

This is a hard post to write, because for me decision time has come.

I have a big collection of cameras and for a while I was a collector
but after 2005 I realized that it wasn't about cameras it was about
the photos. So I tried that for a while and I like it better than
collecting. I allways been a usercollector.

The camera is a tool, no more, no less. It is the photographers skill
or in most cases luck that makes the photo.

And I've got other problems. Donations to Tigers Lair have now dropped
to zero. That isn't bad, webspace and all may not be cheap but I make
a fair living. People seem to like what Tigers Lair is and except for
the occasional hatemail all is well, but I allways said that once
support dropped to zero.... it would be time to stop.
And unfortunatly my personal life if a real mess. My love life is
none existant, my parents go in and out of hospital. I can cope with
all this.... well.... except for my ever failing lovelife which is
driving me slowly insane. You heard about the dateless wonder, well
that is me except for the wonderpart.

In short, before I bore you all with my ongoing ramblings that are of
interest to no one, part of my collection has got to go. I simply have
too much cameras and I can't find the time to shoot with them. In
April I will get a stand at the Fotografica fair in Koog a/d Zaan to
sell off some cameras.

If you are asking why not here, well... In April I might put a few in
this group for sale. But first the Fotografica Fair. This way I don't
have to go to the postoffice. I don't have to take a day off for it.
Reason for that one, I work hard all day every day and I want to pass
a few exams later this year. And for some reason the post seems to
loose my packages... this has now happened a little too often.

Besides... try sending an MTO 1000 mm or an Oregestor 300 mm through
the mail... it means 25 to 30 euros of shipping on top of the lens,
and yes both will be have to be sold. I hate to loose the Oregestor
but I don't use it much, great lens, piece of art even, but way too
heavy. Also all my mediumformats will have to go... (lubitell, Salyut
and Kiev 60) I simply never found the time for them.

Other things that must go, all my Zorki 1's except for one. Since
these go for 125 to 150 a pop on ebay and the Fotografica fairs its
simply time to sell... One Zorki 1 is enough for me (might keep two
though) Couple of my Zenits... parts and otherwise... Several Feds,
maybe even the rare Fed 2L, Voshkod, couple of snipers, maybe my even
my lomos. But I'm keeping the ones I use most, E, EM, 11, 12 couple
of Snaipers.

It is a lot, so in april I will put up a few at the time in this group
otherwise I loose track of things.

As for this group, nothing will change. Allthough after the whole
"Bart Peeren" affair I have thought seriously about quitting and
simply disbanding this group. For now, nothing will change.

Wow. It is really sad. [:(] Just this weekend I used tips on his Web Side to fix my Zenit. We should definitely try to find ways how to preserve his articles.

Yes, it is too valuable to be hidden. And I am afraid that it will be gone unless someone else puts it in the internet....

What a pity! Although not beeing an active member of ZCG, I have always found it very informative and useful. I really hope the community will never let to close the site down.

Regards,
Aidas

Hi,

Thanks everyone for the support. Just to recap in a nutshell.

ZCG Yahoo and ZCG Flickr will remain the same. ZCG Flickr is going
very well with over 100 members now (must introduce something new
there for fun)

Tigers Lair will change over time, not soon. All articles will remain
online.

So at least the articles remain! I would've hated to lose that resource, Tom did such an amazing job!
