So I went to the link in Russian from this Zenit site, because I was curious about the digital one.. That is the wackiest digital SLR design! Here's what it entails on Zenit N1 (this is all in prototype stage so don't take it for a final product):

1. It will have a removable pentaprism, with an option of waist level viewfinder.

2. It WILL NOT have a full time LCD screen like all other cameras, you will take pictures blindly like you do on film SLR, BUT it will have an attachment with LCD and a separate power source (!!) that you attach to the camera when you want to review the pictures. I guess it may be a good idea if you want a lighter camera to carry around...

3. The memory medium is still being decided on, but the word is, it maybe a built-in micro hard drive (!!)

4. It will have titanium curtain shutter with magnetically controlled mirror

5. It will be the first SLR to have a "Video" mode, so you can use it as camcorder. I guess with the built-in hard-drive, why not?

I can tell you this much... with some of these features - I'll buy it.

I particularly found that there is the right solution for a digital.
They are right in going to a reliable low cost equipment.
Memory can run in an auxiliary connection to a pen-drive or an I-pod. The memory size is decided by yourself. You have the extra bonus of having an always up-to date camera, it is only needed to replace the auxiliary item, furthermore, the original camera is naturally less prone to faults. Really you do not need memory on camera. Camera user must be an experienced people, something that driving a car: Do you drive the car to a light post only to see the crash?- When you "drive" a camera it is the same thing, and further, if you do pictures in favourable conditions you can correct prints after. (at unfavourable conditions your picture will always be lost) and this culture we have from film cameras. My favourite technique is to correct scanned negatives which is the simplest way to do photography everwhere.I am not the only one to pray such way, almost all member of "Camaras Russas" do so.

You are right, I do like the idea of modular design, it's like you can start with something super-light but still usable and add-on stuff you need as you go.. but knowing Russian ingenuity they will have electric shaving razor attachment and a add-on butane cigarette lighter module :)
