My issue is about Contax II but as you know the relation with Kiev rangefinder camera it might interest some of you there [:)]
So, a couple of months ago I was dismantling a Contax II when looking at the front plate I saw that marking :

"22 OKT 1937"
Camera serial number is F421xx. According to a French book the camera was made in 1937. This seems to be a proof [8)]
I never seen something like that with Kiev camera... But I may be wrong [?] Any comments ?
Best,
Jed

To best of my knowledge the year is usually encoded in the serial # on Russian cameras, I don't think they go to the extent of stamping month and day..
