Hi,

A 3rd version of Mir was mentioned on Aidas excellent site, but without an image. However, I have this version, and here is an image FYI. The s/n is 5948649.

I also have a 2nd version with a s/n of 5938495. I appreciate the very complete information on his site.[:D]

I also have the last, most common version s/n 5972578.

Cheers,

Zhang,

thanks for showing us this beauty! Could I use your image to illustrate type-3 on my site? Thanks in advance!

Juhani,

Indeed, your camera is very early from type-2!!! The earliest so far known 2nd type camera comes with number #5928959.

Best Regards,
Aidas

And naturally free to use by Aidas and other friends as long as Juhani is mentioned, all my pics are free with same "rule"!

PS: 1/1000 is with dot only

Aidas,

I upload the image for you to use.The same rule as Juhani. :-)Do you have an idea how many 3rd version were produced? It seems only about 20,000 2nd version were made between 5928959 and my 3rd version of 5948649.

Kind Regards,

zhang

Hi Zhang,

let's try to answer your question ... [:)] As we know at least 4 types of particular camera are known nowadays.

First (earliest) version starts with #5924741 (seen on Mir manual guide). The first real camera belongs to Viktor Suglob with #5924765, the latest known so far belongs to Yuriy Davidenko #5928690.
1st type approximate range: #5924741-#5928800, quantity appr. 4000 units;
2nd type approximate range: #5928800-#5947000, quantity appr. 18500 units;
3rd type approximate range: #5947000-#5957000. I have to stop now, while this transitional version was mixed with 4th type cameras since #5949000. I can only guess about proportion between type-3 and type-4 cameras, but I think, that remains of old-type bodies couldn't exceed 40 per cents of total 10000 units amount. So quantity appr. 4000-4500 units for 3rd type.
4th version is the most common to find. I have calculated, that appr. 60000 cameras were released in 1959 and appr. 77000 in 1960, total amount apr. 135000 units. I'm not sure you'd like to see my calculation (just ask if interested), but my numbers are close enough to official KMZ database.

Is it enough to answer your question? [:D] Any comments?

Best Regards,
Aidas

Hi Aidas,

I think you have covered all Mir types very completely. Excellent job! I don't think anyone has done this before. Maybe Princelle will quote this for his next edition of Soviet camera bible.:-) I like the Mir(peace) name. Was this camera issued at about the same time as Mir space station?

Best Regards,
