That is a pretty amazing lens to see. I wonder how many Jupiter-8 lenses were made at GOMZ, or if it was actually constructed a KMZ and then sent to GOMZ where it was numbered and factory marked.

Can you see any small details that are different between a KMZ J-8 and this lens, such as the texture of the chrome, differences in the shape or size of the knurled rings, or any differences in the way the letters and numbers are engraved both on the barrel and on the front? Sometimes these small differences can prove that it was made at a different factory, or if no differences at the same factory.

Below you will find a comparison between Jupiter-8 GOMZ and Jupiter-8 KMZ lenses. After some brief examination of two 1958 Leningrad lenses I can confirm, that my two particular lenses were made in different places indeed:

1. KMZ lens is 2mm taller in comparison with GOMZ one;
2. Meter scale ring is more narrow on KMZ lens;
3. Mount disk is different construction and size;
4. Aperture ring is more narrow on KMZ lens;
5. Counterclockwise Aperture settings on the KMZ lens (no f-stops), clockwise Aperture setting on the GOMZ lens with f-stops;
6. Aperture numbers from f/2 to f/22 on KMZ lens, Aperture numbers from f/2 to f/16 on GOMZ one.
7. Different size of markings, etc...
