Hi, I don't know.... LTM Jupiter 8 can be found with s/n "T". Very uncommon. First time I see a Kiev camera with that letter plus matching lens. Best, |

This is a Tropical version on the lens, it's made with humidity resistant materials and sealing.

Actually I have some new information regarding this from Ilya Stolyar. A reliable source connected to Arsenal had told him that this is a Topographical and not a tropical camera/lens made to be used from an airplane.
While it may stand for "Tropical" for KMZ production, for Arsenal it's "Topographical".
Cheers, Vlad |

Thank you Jed! I've fixed the image, you uploaded as file, you need to upload it as "image" in order for it to show up.
Cheers, Vlad |

Interesting why they used Kiev-4 for topographical purpose, when usualy was used AFA camera with dedicated lenses on large format film. |

First time I see that. It would be interested what what exactly changed for these "T" cameras and Jups. Congrats, Jed, you are the best!

Sometimes checking Kiev serial numbers on ebay auctions is not a waste of time ;) |

Got the camera today !
Great news : lens is different !
It seems that the lens was reformulated (1 element added ?) |

Amazing!
Really, it seems that the rear part is bigger than on the normal Jup 8... Would they have put a triplet instead of a doublet? If possible, could you make a photo comparison between your "T" and a non "T"?
Finally, does this lens work?
Thanks, Jed! |

Well It seems that I was wrong :( I've made my comparison with the old Jupiter 8 - My lens is from 1964 so 8M |

So how is it compared to another 8M? What about weight? It could tell something if weight is different between T and non-T (other metal used) |

I have just found 66g for a 1963 jup 8 and 82g for a 1976 8M, in the same condition as Jed's picts. But probably, it does not mean much: these two lenses are not of the same generation.
Anyway, when I compare them, the dimensions are the same. Only the coatings are really different. And there is on my 8M the same protecting ring as on Jed's one. This ring doesn't exist on the Jup 8.
It's all I can say... Amitiés. Jacques. |

Some screws aren't painted in black, quite uncommon.

If you compare your two 8M lenses, Jean, are there visible differences concerning the dimensions? The weight?
Except for the coating, of course! |

I fear I won't be usefull, I'm not specialist of those rangefinder lenses. But the idea to meet is good, maybe to show each other interestings things . But again, I have few Kiev and lenses to mount on them

Interesting, these screws. On my Kievs, they are always black painted. Are there other visible differences, if you compare with your other numerous Kievs, Jed?

With the mount, I suppose? My measures were without anything. |
