Hello everyone,

I have a Zorki-4 s/n 5639968 made in 1956. This camera has some details that are different from later ones. Is this the earliest Zorki-4 model? I think it shared some parts such as winding and rewinding nobs with that of Zorki-3C.Here is an image FYI.

Kind Regards,

Zhang

Hello Zhang,

You're right some early Zorki 4 share parts with Zorki 3C. Here's another 56 sample :

Zhang, this is in fact the earlier example I have seen. SSK book (Suglob, Shaternik, Kochergin) shows this as the first iteration but their example picture is a later one with serial #5652624 that looks identical with vertically ribbed winding and rewinding knobs. Congratulations!

A note about the book - I am second day into it the level of attention to variations of a single camera is mind boggling. I am still on page 70 after 2 days, there's just so much detail. 12 variations of Zorki-4! Amazing. (For some reason after meeting and knowing Alain Berry, I can totally see him reading and cursing over it, counting the models he is missing ). So funny, just an image I have in my mind. .

Cheers,
Vlad

Hello Jed,

Many thanks for your information. I am sorry to hear your loss of the early Zorki-4. I think the s/n of early Zorki-4 are mixed with those Zorki-3,3M, and 3C made in 1956 as only some 10,000+ Zorki-4s were made that year.

Aidas on his excellent site mentioned an even earlier Zorki 4, but I can't recall the owner's name off-hand.

Kind Regards,

Zhang

Hello Vlad,

Many thanks for your kind reply. I am very pleased to know that my camera is an earlier example that on the Russian cameras bible Russian version(SSK book). I hope Mr. Berry will soon find all those models after reading this excellent book.

Cheers,

Zhang
