ID lens mount of a Mir-1 37mm lens

Hello all,

I'm pretty sure this lens has a zenit m39 thread, but could anyone confirm this for me, please?

While we're at it, could anyone please tell me what the best way of cleaning 'silver' lens barrels is?

It seems the mir 37mm lens in the first post was actually being used on a Zenit E, serial No. 75237314.

Does this mean the camera is from 1975? If so, then the lens would be 42mm, I presume. I believe the symbol on the front of the lens is that of the 'Zagorsk' factory.

The seller has measured the width of the thread and it seems to be 41.7mm "on the high point of thread", I presume he means the outside diameter of the thread, and it's 41.3mm "on the low point on the diameter", I presume he mens the inside diameter of the thread.

It seems to me, despite it's 'old style looks' and the fact that it mentions the 1958 grand prix and has a serial No. starting with 68, (which, if they are the year of manufacture, would at least be a 'ten year anniversary' of the grand prix. What was so good about the grand prix in brussels in 1958 to be celebrated 10 years later?), that this particular lens is a 42mm thread lens.

Has anyone got any thoughts or further info? Did they make this lens on both 39mm and 42mm fitting, or could this one have been 'adapted'?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Edit: I've just found out that the 'grand prix' wasn't a race, but a prize won by this lens at the "world's fair" in Brussels in 1958. So that explains it - of course they're going to 'show off' at winning a big honour.

Ask for a photo of the threads, and you will see the adapter which is a thin ring which screws onto the original threads.

Hmmm. It seems that both the 'BBCode' and the 'HTML code' aren't much use now, even though I posted the OP pics with the 'HTML code'.
The 'Link only' code has at least worked, but without preview.

So please someone have a look and tell me, is this lens a normal zenit m39 lens, an m42 lens, a zenit m39 lens with m42 adapter? Did they make m42 mir 1's in silver normally, or is this a very very late one which could have been made into an m42 lens at the factory?

It looks to be without any adapter. As to M39 or M42, it is not apparent from the photos (not to me [:)])

If it is a silver M42, it is unusual.

I was beginning to think it may be unusual.

I think there is a bit on the web somewhere that explains (in Russian) how to change an M39 mount lens into an M42 mount lens. It seems to be by taking the thing apart and messing about with something or other. It did not seem to be talking about an adapter.

If my understanding of that article is correct, then maybe this lens is just a 'home conversion'. Unusual but not really any more valuable. Could there be any way of finding out if it was done at the factory or at someone's home? I doubt it.
