                      | Hello,
I think I've made a mistake while winding my F-21... I wound it too hard and now it does not release any more. The spring makes an ugly sound when trying to wind it... Has anybody opened up a F-21 before or does anyone know a site to a repair help? I don't know what expects me when I loose the screw on the top of the spring winding knob - a big spring that jumps out of the camera or something like this?

                      | First you must file a report about this incident to the KGB Technology & Equipment Services Officer and then you must go to the basement and sign up for the appropriate interrogation and punishment.

 Regards, Bill

                      | Bill,
I have done it and they have told me that it is not possible to "overwind" the spring, there is a mechanism that prevents the spring from getting broken :-) But they are not able to send me tools for reparing it within the next 5 years ;-)

But I have found out how to open it, it's easier as I have expected. That's the good news. Thanks to Detlev for the helping mail.

Alain, I think it is another problem, the shutter won't release anymore, there is something stuck inside the mechanism. When I press the shutter nothing moves inside the camera, no gear or lever. I have found some technical description on Guido's site, but if you have more information it would be nice if you can send it to me.

                      | Well, I have made it work again :-) I just loosened some screws to get deeper into the machanism and *rrrrrr* the spring unwinds some turns and now the camera seems to work well as before :-)

                      | Hm... now something strange happens... it *first* unwinds the spring and then releases the shutter. That is not what I expected. What's going wrong now? I think I have to take a closer look to it ...
