Unopened binoculars

As well as my underwater housings http://www.ussrphoto.com/Forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1270 I've also got a pair of Russian binoculars that I'd like to know more about.

They are still in their original box, unopened since (I think) sometime in the 60s or 70s. As you can see the pack is still sealed with a little lead seal. My wife and I don't want to open the box in case it is a valuable pair inside and we affect the value. We don't read Russian so we have no idea if they are unusual or a run of the mill ordinary pair.

Can anybody tell us what we've got?

What you have is an earlier version of the BPB-1 12x40 manufactured in Kazan around 1969/1970 "B" means binocular "P" -Porro type prismatic, second "B" is an optical variant or reticle -"1" first variant "12" is the magnification (12X) "40" is the diameter of the objectives.

Thanks for your help Luiz, I guess it means it's safe to open the box as they're not particularly unusual or valuable. But then again, I've no need to open the box now I know what they are and what they look like! I may even ebay them unopened, I think ebayers may get excited about that
