Posted - Jun 08 2015 : 01:56:04 AM Hi there. My friend has a Fed 2 camera with an original case. However, the case is falling apart and I would like to buy him a new one. Do any online stores sell new leather cases for fed 2 cameras? So far my only option seems to be buying a whole new camera + case! |

Posted - Jun 09 2015 : 07:11:45 AM I would go to a local camera shop with the Fed-2 and check bags to fit the camera. There are nice ones which are not too big. For example this on ebay 331572704133. |

Posted - Jun 09 2015 : 07:00:01 AM Thanks Lenny - do you have any ebay links to what you mean by the shooting case (recent nonleather)? |

Posted - Jun 09 2015 : 06:55:23 AM Most important is that the case can be screwed on the base plate of the camera. If there is no screw the camera can fall out depending on the weight of the lens. The screws for Fed-1, Zorki-1/C/2/2C are not in the center, so their cases won't match. There are different Fed-2, i.e. with and without selftimer, which needs a matching case. Mostly Fed-2 have Imdustar-26M or Industar-61 rigid lenses. Cases without a big lens-cup won't match either. But collecting and shooting are different animals. For shooting I would use a recent nonleather case which can be find everywhere and can be carried at the belt. |

Posted - Jun 09 2015 : 04:01:11 AM Zorki 1 cases and early Leica's (let us say prewar ones)fit a Fed 1. But I don't understand exactly: you friend wants a case for a Fed 1 or a Fed 2? |

Posted - Jun 09 2015 : 03:30:20 AM Will the cases for any other cameras fit the Fed 1? e.g. any of the Zorki/Leica cases? |

Posted - Jun 08 2015 : 12:56:08 PM No, a Fed 1 case doesn't fit a Fed 2 camera. The dimensions are not the same.

Posted - Jun 08 2015 : 12:17:35 PM Will a Fed 1 case fit a Fed 2 camera? He plans to keep the old case, but he's going travelling soon and would rather take something sturdy to guard the camera! |

Posted - Jun 08 2015 : 07:05:07 AM Lenny, you should open a special thread about the storage of cases, it would be useful for everybody and more convenient for Hellz.
To Hellz and Martti: impossible to put the hand on a Fed bag. So, I let you manage with that.

Posted - Jun 08 2015 : 06:46:07 AM The storage can be a real problem. I keep most leather cases in big plastic bags, sorted by models and keeping a note inside every case with the camera-serial to keep the combination. I have only some cases hanging on the wall which I have cleaned and like very much, otherwise they are too dirty. These old leather cases from 1950 and earlier are very special and really well made, not like cases from 1958 and later. I also have a case without logo which came with a Zorki-1, so not an original case but in even better quality than the original ones and it seems to be very old too. |

Posted - Jun 08 2015 : 05:29:16 AM I get rid of most of my bags, because I have not enough place. So, no lesson please. Everybody does what he wants and what he can.
Just let me some hours, Hellz. I had some, and I have to check.

Posted - Jun 08 2015 : 03:50:58 AM I think it's hard to find a NEW camera after more than 50 years. The thing for me is to keep these old cameras original. How about trying to clean and sew the case? If you buy a brand new and not original case it's just not the same, maybe you can find one of those on ebay without the camera logo in front. Here is a new one for a Fed-1 for $45 on ebay 161682037995. |
