Posted - Feb 18 2009 : 4:43:21 PM It is so hard ...
I planned to reduce the cameras I have. It works, I've sold some over eBay and private.
But I can't resist... if there is FED 3A with the rim around the viewfinder (serial 100xxxx) I have to go for it. And then there was that good looking Yunost. Yes, a Yunost in fully working state with a back that has the lock :-) Ok, I got it ...
And what's that? Somebody sells a "Contax SLR" that is a nice working Contax II with a Jupiter 9 and a 35/50mm finder ... ok, you bet an amount and get if for the half you have bet... got it here...
And there is more in the post... two KNEB's and two Contaxes in one packet ... my god :-)

Posted - Feb 22 2009 : 05:01:52 AM I had dee'cided to trash my last e-bay sales on remade ENIGMA Kievs .
Then a '' new '' in box UK , T.O.E imported Kiev 4a was seen ....
Now , compared to a Kiev 2 /3 or even an early 4 with working meter , this is not my favourite Kiev , but £50 short - am I content ! Indeed , a Kiev 4 would probably have a non-working or inaccurate meter , so a Kiev 4a is a better camera to retain it's 30 years of originality .
It's as new - foam box Uk Manual and Passport [ not filled in ] case and strap hardly used . Works a little stiffly , but no worse than some supposedly CLA Kievs I have aquired . The rangefinder is clear and accurate . I would actually enjoy USING this Kiev !
The sleeve is written '' Rangefinder System Camera '' with a drawing of the Zorki 4K !
I can only guess that it was a second hobby camera , as a Soviet camera in UK in the late 70s would have been a novelty . I surmise he could not get on with it's idiosyncrasies but just hung onto it .
This is as close to a new Kiev as I am ever going to achieve within real money terms at least !

Posted - Feb 20 2009 : 5:07:01 PM And by the way, the 1936 Contax has the mirrored "ZZ" in the Zeiss Logo on the back, the one from 1942 has an "SS" in the logo...

I wrote:

Today the packet arrives here. Unfortunately the seller makes a mistake and sent me a Kiev from 1977 instead of the KNEB from 1952... I hope he hasn't send the KNEB to the buyer of the 77 Kiev until now. We will see.
But the other 3 cameras are nice. A KIEV IIIa from 1955 that looks like new. The shutter is a bit slow but I know where the dust sits that slows down the shutter :-) (the gears of the winding mechanism are sticky, if you clean and oil them a bit they run free).
Both Contaxes were described as broken (but they were a real bargain), one (a Contax III from 1942) works after cleaning very nice and looks superb. I have never seen a coated Sonnar of wartime in such a good state. The other one (a Contax II from 1936) has broken shutter straps, but also look very nice. So I can put the fine working shutter of a really ugly Contax II I own in that one :-)

Posted - Feb 19 2009 : 3:40:41 PM Thanks for your sympathies :-) So I know that we all have this virus that nobody can explain...
If someone is interested in a Zenit 3M or a broken FT-2 look at my auctions at eBay. The Zenit works fine, the FT-2 is cocked and does not release anymore. And one of the clips of the body is missing:

Posted - Feb 18 2009 : 11:26:55 PM I must admit that I have fallen again. I did manage to trade or sell some cameras away in the midwinter, but with the Lomo's I did fall back into cameraholism. Yesterday two new cameras arrived with post, again...
Best regards, Juhani |
