Antique Flashes

3 posts in this thread
Hey All,

Can anyone tell what those antique flashes are called in English, the ones that used chemicals that explode? I'm looking for a proper name for these. You know, the ones you pour stuff into then it has a lighter built in that you click and spark sets of an light explosion with a cloud of smoke. :)

Were any manufactured in USSR?

Thanks,

Vlad.
Dear Vlad:

An interesting question!

The Englsh name is:
Flash-powder or flashlight powder
The Dutch name is: flitslichtpoeder
In German: Blitzlichtpulver or Blitzpulver
In Français: Photopoudre or poudre éclair
Information from two old books, from 1920 and 1923
The devices being used for the powders are in various models
If you wish more eg pictures, don't hesitate and contacts me
In the books mentioned: these powdesr are very explosive! when using a cigar too !! moustache! Big smile

About if produced in Ussr I have no information.
But keeping in mind the contacts between Germany and Ussr I think it is possible.
Will try to find out more
Best wishes
Gerard
Hello Gerard,

Since my post, I've also came up with another name that someone used - Magnesium Flash-Gun. I will be very interested to know whether you come up with anything about any models that USSR had manufactured.

Thanks!

Vlad.
