FED Paya

After seeing such an oddity I felt myself more happy!
Jordi Paya architect from , Catalonia posted this wonderful work!
This beauty made by his grandfather Jesus Paya (1899-1979) during the 60's, uses an old series FED camera body completely refurbished and retrofitted.
He removed the rangefinder and viewfinder and built an entirely new focusing front panel and camera top including a reflex finder.
On the body there were installed exactly paired focal lengths: a Meyer Kino Plasmat 1.5/50mm lens as taking lens and a Zeiss Tessar 2.8/50mm as viewing objective. The focusing matt lens and a Front lens loupe and mirror were borrowed from an old Kine Exakta and used as ground glass and magnifier of the reflex finder. All parts from pre-war era. The Focusing assembly can be telescoped for eye diopter adjusting and stored in the body. All metal parts were hand worked in solid polished aluminum and oxidized metal sheets. Original FED top and bottom were rechrommed.
The rear received an external removable ground plate instead of the original peep hole for lens focusing. The body received a new type of leather snake similar.
There were installed strap lugs, and new advance and rewind knobs; it was thought inclusive a special double lens cap!

Some time ago, pehaps 8 years now, I knew a man who had an absolutely new Kine Exakta transformed into a Zoom Photosniper. This camera was also assembled by his grandfather in 1939! Just before the war! He lived just three streets away from me. Unhappyly he sold this wonderful beautiness.
The zoom lens was composed by a 200mm Tele-Tessar and a built-in Zeiss Distar in the tube. An ingenious device set the distance between the two lenses giving a variable magnification. He said that his grandfather was chief engeneer of the South Zone area of the light distribution company in the city of Rio de Janeiro and the complete set was built in the Company's repair shop.

Absolutely wonderful, and not only because I am fan of Feds...
Brushed aluminium is beautiful, and the whole camera seems as if it had been made by a factory...
The reflex viewfinder should be very interesting. Probably there are common ideas with the Periflex.
Do you know if it was used, or was it only an art exercise?

This camera was put on exoctic cameras of Flicker forum
today I placed a fotokor conversion
Unhappily very littles is said from those cameras.
When one of these camersa came to my sight I resend them to our forum.
Note it is no a SLR conception like periflex but a twin lens camera!
