Hi all,

It's being a long while I was away from the forum, but I always missed my old friends here.Smile

I'd like to post a few images of the Start type 1a. According to Mr.Aidas, only a few hundred units were made in 1958. His site doesn't have an image of the type 1a, he mighe wish to add some images to his listing of Start SLRs.
My camera has a S/N of 5800366. I could add more images later.

Best wishes,

Zhang

It is great to see you back, Zhang!

Great find indeed, it is almost impossible to find Starts now with the glass knobs.. I was lucky enough to buy one from eBay some 7 years ago.. I'm not sure if any of that info is available, but does anyone know how many glass knob Starts were manufactured total?

Hi Ulrich,

Thanks for the comments.Smile I bought it many years ago from a friend. I don't remember ever seeing another 1a model again. Some details of the lens mount are different from that of later models. I need to check another 1a to find out if all 1a model lenses have the same mount, but these seem quite rare.

Cheers,

Zhang

Hi Vlad,

Thanks for your welcome!Smile
Yes, your glass nob Start is a lucky find. These seem quite rare these days. I don't know exactly how many with a glass knob. I have another start with a s/n of 59xxxxx that also has a glass knob, but I can't locate it just now, so I can't tell the exact s/n.

Cheers,

Zhang

I found the s/n 5900069 Start. It is still a type 1a with a speed dial of 1,1/2, 1/5, and 1/10....and the lens s/n started with 00xxxxx. I also have another early Start with a glass knob and a s/n of 5901677. it is already a type 1b with speeds of 1,1/2,1/4, 1/8,and 1/15.....

I am the lucky owner of 3 rare early Start cameras.Big smileCool
