FED 1 C

Hi Alexey!

The changing in the left side is well known; for me it corresponds to a changing of tools. If I am not wrong, we find (rarely) later covers with the first type: probably forgotten spares. I can reduce a bit your fork: my s/n 59349 (an S) always belongs to the first type.

That question remembers me the changing in the Fed 1b covers in the s/n 21xxx: we already spoke of that.

About the second pit, I had never noticed that!Big smile Bravo! This second pit is just against the collar of the rewind button. It was probably made to ease its unscrewing, then suppressed as not absolutely necessary (or the collars were made smaller). We are in 1938, at the very beginning of mass production for Fed, and they try to simplify the work... That makes sense...

Thanks!
Amitiés. Jacques.

Jacques greetings!
Thank you for your letter!
I think you're a bit confused, FED No. 21ххх has a round right end.
I'm showing the early covers of FED №544хх with the end face for ФЭД-Б, but ... the other stamp of the top cover on the left.
Yes, maybe this change is similar to the previous one, but it's a new stamp!

Sure, Alexey. I was just comparing with the 1b which had previously the same modification, concerning the left corner. And I am not confused!Big smile

So, there were (at least)four alterations around the 54/64xxx serial numbers:
- the corner around the speed dial, from round to angled (passage 1b/1c). We knew it, of course,
- the left corner, modified between the 59349 (my camera) and the 65414 (the one you show), well known too, even if we find later rare covers with the early shape,
- the vulcanite (it's another matter),
- this famous second pit I had not noticed. I confirm: it exists too on my early 1c s/n 59349 and my other 1c before. And thanks to have seen that!

Certainly the stamping tools were changed to obtain the modified left corner and the second pit.

Amitiés. Jacques.

You are too precise for me, Alexey...
But, as for me, I have the s/n 54369 as the first 1c s/n, by my data.
For the changing of vulcanite, I won't discuss. It was just to point the modifications to go towards mass production. But there will be others alterations during the 1c series, as we know.

And once more, thanks to have quoted this second hollow in the cover!

Amitiés. Jacques.

Sorry, Alexey, I have no more the photos of the s/n 54369.
This camera were for sale by Suvorov, on eBay, six or seven years ago now, at least...
I have it on my data by comparison to the last 1b s/n I have seen: the 54223. That one is mine!

Amitiés. Jacques.
