The finder looks real, and it is a rare one.

I was the first bidder, but at that price...
Of course, this camera is certainly not a true one, but who knows exactly... I think I already saw such a Fed with Leicavit like, but on which book or which site, I cannot remember. If somebody could help me to refresh my memory?
As for the Foca finder, it is very scarce, even in France.

Hi Jacques,

In US dollars ... $2500 ... plus buyers premium and tax another $700 ... so $3200.00! I was going to bid also, but it went too high to quickly.

I think it's fake too ... but a rare fake! Fake because:

* If it would have the hammer and sickle Soviet Army markings, it should have a star above that too.
* "FED-SPORT" markings and serial number on the trigger-wind bottom would be on the back or bottom, not on the front.
* If made by FED, why not use a FED-1S with speed of 1/1000?
* The camera looks like a pre-war FED, with different vulcanite than either FED-KMZ or FED-Zorki, so when was it made if it has the KMZ "tomb"prism logo ... in 1945?

So, for me ... too many things fake. I want one, but not for $3200!;-)

Maybe it had 1/1000 speed, but description said "based on FED-1d" not FED-1S ... so I assumed no 1/1000. The KMZ "tomb" prism is right under the "hammer and sickle" on the front of the bottom-plate winder. Also, if you look closely you can see this same logo, with hammer and sickle over "tomb" prism, on the top plate, beneath the "FED-SPORT".

Sure it changes everything and this camera cannot be a true Fed.
Just to discuss, it is impossible to suppose that this item could have been worked by KMZ? The body coming from a prewar 1d, S or not (or assembled by KMZ in 1947 or 48 as a Fed-KMZ or Fed-Zorki) and the Leicavit type rewind specially studied by KMZ in the same years? At that time, they were in effervescence...

Nope. It is impossible. Because there was a plant standard which precisely specified where and when and in what kind the mark may be put.

Hey people!
As I know the KMZ was founded in 1942! There were no tombstone in this date. The camera comes from FED Harkov! ---Still. Remember! 1939!!!!!

Hello Luiz,

I had spoken of a 1d body (prewar, of course!) equipped by KMZ with that Leicavit like winder in 1947-49. It would not have been absolutely impossible: at that time, they used spares and plans coming from Kharkov for Fed-KMZ then Fed-Zorki.

But all that was only to discuss, as I had said too.

Even if it is a fake or real... 1600 EUR are a lot of money... an old lady has to make a lot of sweaters for it (a german saying "dafuer muss man lange stricken") :-)

I suspect that this camera was made in Poland (or anywhere else, in Moscow, for example) at present time... ;)

I think Poland also, because it is very similar to the FED-"Stemar" stereo lens that comes from Poland. A very well made-fake. In my opinion, no way will KMZ or FED put this huge hammer and sickle on the top of the camera! And, no way either will put the logo of the winder on the front ... it would be on the back.
