Just a matter of information:
This is the response I received to my "complaint" to Ebay. My original communication is also attached. I was really surprised that they even bothered to respond at all....
Regards to all,
Frank....
Dear Frank,
Thank you for writing eBay in regard to the new payment requirements.
I understand your frustration in this matter. Let me try to explain the
reasons for these changes. We're making this change to better meet buyer
expectations for a consistent, more secure checkout experience on eBay.
Right now, 1 out of 5 eBay transactions send buyers off eBay to complete
their purchase. Buyers' experiences vary greatly depending on the seller
and their payment provider. This lowers buyer confidence in eBay and
leaves buyers more vulnerable to online fraud. By using only integrated
electronic payment methods in eBay checkout, buyers will be able to stay
on eBay to pay.
Buyers will also have fewer bad experiences, and if something does go
wrong, they will have more recourse. Buyers who pay with a check or
money order on eBay.com today are 80% more likely to file an "item not
received" dispute, and 50% more likely to leave a negative feedback than
buyers who pay with PayPal or a credit card. Starting in late October,
eligible items paid with PayPal on eBay.com will be covered by PayPal
Buyer Protection with no coverage limit and at no additional cost, and
all other approved electronic payment methods' services will also
include consumer protection.
This should increase buyer confidence in shopping on eBay, which should
result in more buyers and increased sales for sellers. The change will
directly benefit sellers by making payments faster and more reliable,
enabling sellers to ship more quickly and increase buyer satisfaction.
Moreover, sellers with their own merchant credit card processing
account, and sellers who use a third-party credit card processor, may
offer their buyers the option of paying directly with a credit card
online (including through third-party checkout) or by phone in addition
to or instead of PayPal.
We thank you in advance for your cooperation, and wish you luck with
your future eBay transactions.
Sincerely,
Jay K.

This is in reference to your "new" payment requirements of not being
able to pay by check or money order:
Just for the record, I always use PayPal as a buying or selling source
for transfer of funds and, I have had very positive experiences with
this source. My current impression, however, of your planned
elimination of checks and MO's, is ludicrious! It is very evident that
your only motivation is to "funnel" more profit into your PayPal channel
by "eliminating" the competition. This is an obvious gesture in that
direction and, in my opinion, is no way, a procedure to help Ebay
sellers and/or buyers. You would do well to take a look at the
"comments" already circulating on the internet, concerning your proposed
"new rules" (others included, related to changes in fees, etc.). Bottom
line is, you are going to loose sellers and, I am NOT impressed with
your direction either. If there was
another option, other than Ebay, I am definately one of MANY that would
incorporate that option into my buying and selling activities. Just my
opinion but, I really believe that your internal "greed" is getting a
"front row seat". Such is "big business"..... too bad, Ebay used to be
a good place but your goals are obviously; Maximum Profit...immediately,
regardless of the opinion and loyalty of the PEOPLE that have put you
where you are.......
VERY Sincerely,
Frank
