I've seen a version of this camera with a black end panel, is this more common than the silver one and is it later or earlier version?

Vlad,
your Vega-2 is type-3 actually. The 1st version (and the earliest one) came without Kiev egravings and had defferent body design. You can see it at:
http://www.sovietcams.com/index.php?-1794343639
The 2nd version is identical to type-1, but with Kiev markings already, as you can see on any Vega-2 manual guide. The black one version should be type-4, although I have never met it alive.

Aidas, your both cameras are black versions! The black end panel that's what I meant! Mine is all silver, that is why I was confused.. now riddle me this: how come earlier versions then use the panel for Kiev 30 and the later one does not? |

I have both variations of Vega-2, with black top and with silver top. They were fairly easy to find. Hard to say how original they are, because it takes not efforts to swap cases and mechanics between cameras or with Kiev 30 and 30M. Sellers from FSU often did this. |

I actually did see black-tops much more often, so I would assume it is original.. |

Vlad,
I was thinking about something else, when replied to your question ... May be it's my time for vacations? You're right, totally white Vega-2 is less common, but not a big rarity indeed ... Anyway it would be great to have Vega-2 classificator, what do you think?

That would be excellent, and not only for Vega but for all 16mm Arsenal models.. Like for example I have a Kiev 30 with an accessory shoe.. (it's in catalog).. I consider it modified, but is it? Let's pull together some resource on this, I would love to participate since I have every model of those as well but not every variation.
But we can start with Vega 2 if you'd like. Mine is in catalog and it's white.. and yours are all black with 2 different bodies - that's 3 types right there...

You are right, Vlad! I'm a little bit upset, while our members (not all of them for sure!) do not hurry to share the information about cameras they possess. I'm very thankful to Alain, Juhani, Yuri and many many others, who supply us with very useful information indeed! I'm happy Jim is coming home to England soon - he have promised to help us with useful data indeed. But it's not enough ...
So dear members of the Forums! I'm asking you to be more active and to share the information about cameras you possess! Vlad did a fantastic job to create this site as our main collecting resource, so we should be interested to make it more complete and useful.
Thank you in advance!

Aidas, You are right to say this and I will start today to go through each of my cameras and add to the WIKI, either with images and information about a camera that I have that is not present, or with additional information and sometimes images that will add to an entry already present. And, thank you to everyone who adds things!
Regards, Bill

Hello everyone,
Do you have any idea how many Vega and Vega-2 were made? IMO, the 1st variation of Kiev Vega is fairly uncommon. What do you think?
Cheers,
Zhang |
